Monsoon Nirvana

Even while I was on my way to the event 'Monsoon Nirvana,' I couldn't believe myself that I'm actually classical music concert. Although I have had the utmost respect for the art form from as far back as I could remember, I never really got exposed to it in a way so as to fully appreciate it. It was an opportunity given by fate to finally hear some classical music without having the option of switching the channel or muting it.


I was almost blown away when I found out that the artists were performing extempore, without any sort of rehearsal whatsoever, with WhatsApp being their medium of communication in orchestrating the composition. As far as I knew, classical music requires a lot of practice and the seven women who were performing that night had never met before and therefore have never rehearsed together. As though it was not difficult enough, the ragas they were playing were not of their choice, but were assigned to them by the organisers.

I could very well say that it was a challenge worthy of the performers, as each one looked determined to showcase their best performance and to prove to themselves and to the world that they can indeed do it, despite the lack of rehearsals. At the same time, they seemed to revel in the performance of the other artists.


For the 7th edition of 'Monsoon Nirvana,' Cisne for Artsand Perfect Harmony Productions have brought together seven artists displaying their talents on seven different forms of music playing seven ragas, that represent the seven chakras of the human anatomy. The power of seven has been explored to the fullest extent and to the grandest impact on one of the most majestic stages of Hyderabad, Shilpa Kala Vedika. The seven artists are: Mandapaka Nagalakshmi (Mridangam), U Nagamani (Mandolin), Debopriya Chatterjee (Flute), Chandana Bala kalyan (Vocal), Padma Shankar (Violin), Savani Talwalkar (Tabla) and Radha Padmaja (Morsing) performing in that specific order to create the best acoustic experience for the audience.
