A Year in Review 2018 – Horror and Thriller

With 2018 now behind us, it’s time to look back on some of the blockbusters that kept us going to the movies every weekend.

Today we’ll be looking at the movies that made our heart stop beating, made us hold our breath,and scream out loud.

We start with John Krazinski’s directorial debut, A Quiet Place.

A Quiet Place, directed by John Krazinski, most known for his role as Jim Halpert from The Office,takes place in a post-apocalyptic world overrun by blind monsters who have an acute sense of hearing.

In this world, a family must survive while making no sound at all, to ensure the monsters don’t find and kill them.

With palpable tension in almost every scene, you won’t want to make a noise yourself while watching this movie. A great thriller and a definite must watch for fans of the genre.

Halloween is a sequel to the 1978 film of the same name. Escaping while being transferred to another sanatorium, Michael Myers begins terrorizing the town once again, searching for Laurie, the woman who survived the first movie.

But this time, she’s ready to take him down for good. Featuring the actors from the original, if you were a fan of the original Halloween, you’d definitely be happy with the sequel.

It brings back the elements that made the first movie a smash hit.

The Purge franchise also had another entry last year with The First Purge. Following the first annual “Purge” that was run as a test in Staten Island.

An interesting look into the nature of the Purge and the reasons for its inception, as well as the nature of people when put in certain circumstances,

The First Purge has some decent social commentary. The character arcs are interesting, and even though there are a few questionable choices, overall it’s a fun thriller
